Total Annilation: Spring; like Supreme Commander, but its better (and free)

Spring is a open source 3D remake of the game Total Annilation, the game that preceded Supreme Commander. I'm bringing this game up because I don't know how many people are aware of its awesomeness. I own both Spring and Subcom, buying SubCom a month after I started playing Spring. However, i found it to be much less entertaing and went back to Spring after just a short while, being inferior in every realm but graphics (imo). Most people on outset consider it just to be the poor mans SubCom, but its so much more. So check it out, you have nothing to lose. The game is 100% free. Not advertising BTW, I just see so many ''what RTS should I get?'' threads I thought I should mention this. Total Annilation: Spring; like Supreme Commander, but its better (and free)
Indeed I will take a look.Total Annilation: Spring; like Supreme Commander, but its better (and free)
Thank you Ill check it out.
Yep, ill check it out too.

Thanks, I loved SupCom BTW :D.
It's a mod. Mod != Free. Unless that has changed, but I looked everywhere and it said Mod.
Errr so you need to have TA installed already or am I missing something?
Errr so you need to have TA installed already or am I missing something?
You need to have TA already installed to use any of the TA units or maps. Spring doesn't provide them (as that would then make it illegal). That being said (if I remember correctly) you can download user-created unit packs and maps for it without needing TA.In my view, Spring is just something for TA owners that helps significantly upgrade the visual splendor of TA, while keeping the traditional TA gameplay. I've also tried it before, and it's pretty good -- assuming you like TA.
TA better than supcom? Pffffft....only hardcore oldschool gamers would say that...(that's like saying CnC was better than C%26C3)
TA better than supcom? Although I do find it odd that TA could be ''better'' than supcom because they're almost the same game :?.I'm still checking it out though, maybe I'll think diff. after that.

TA is one amazing RTS. Along with StarCraft and Age of Empires II it rounds out the trinity of golden RTS games from the late nineties. Glad I own a copy. Should play it again.
Looks great. I'll try it.
You don't need TA to play it. Their are some mods that use TA sounds and a little code, but thats it, and with every mod version its usage of said materials is diminished. Total Annilation is vertually abandonware by now, and if anything it is just promoting players to buy SubCom. Also, downloading mods with TA materials is optional. The engine itself is an orginal creation, their are mods that use no TA resources.
Well, I'm still enjoying SupCom a lot, and I honestly think the visuals and scale give it a big plus over TA, although I haven't played TA in years (where's that cd?!).
I recently found my TA disks, so I'll check this out :)
