I liked it, graphics aren't the greatest, story is very good, combat is fun if you don't pick a boring class to play as (druid for instance in my opinion). There are side quests, in fact when you get like 60% ish through it, you get a castle and some of the things you can do for it, while not really side quests were pretty cool, and sort of addicting. There are traditional side quests, but the main quest is the more important part, and it takes a long time to play through (like a 40 hour game).Bottom line, I say play it.Neverwinter Nights 2: Your opinion plz.
Play it- Neverwinter Nights 2 isn't perfect, it has issues with ease of camera control and the graphics aren't spectacular. However, it's a classic rpg in many senses of the word. There is a ton of character interaction, both with NPCs in your party and between your protagonist and others in the world. There's a great deal of dialogue, and it's important. The story is very good, and a primary focus of the game. Combat is important and fun, but does not eclipse plot, interactions, and actual role-playing. It's much more in the vein of the greatest rpgs of all time, like the Fallout series, the Baldur's Gate series, or Planescape: Torment. Oblivion, however, is a member of the rapidly rising subgenre of action-rpgs, or role-playing games that are usually pretty shallow in plot, dialogue, and character interactions, with a greater focus on combat. Oblivion's story is stock, most of the world is randomly generated, repetitive, and not terribly interesting, the combat is streamlined into a rote click-fest, the quests are terribly boring and most either go-and-fetch, or kill NPC ''x'', and frankly you don't get to role-play much at all.Play Neverwinter Nights 2, then, if you like it, go try out Baldur's Gate games, Fallout games, and Planescape: Torment. They're old, but they're vastly superior to the pap espoused as ''rpgs'' these days. You'll thank me for it.
I really like Neverwinter nights 2. There is 40-50 hours of gameplay plus replay value keeping you busy for weeks. $30 that would be an excellent game for the price you paid for this game.
Ok, sounds great. I think I'll play it now.
It's enjoyable for at least one play through. THe singleplayer campaign is much more enjoyable than the original Neverwinter Nights, that's for sure. AI is a little dodgy, though. Did they ever fix that with patches?
I installed it but I am getting terrible performance. My specs are: Intel P4 3.0GHz, 2gb Ram, ATI HD 3850 256Mb. Even on low settings the framerate is terrible. What's going on? I can max out almost every game I have including UT3, but not this?
It's extremely unoptimized.
Really? What can I do?
Not too much.. the patch helps a bit, but the AI still sucks terribly and there's nothing you can do about that. I think some aspects of the game are good, but I never ended up finishing it just because I couldn't deal with the bugs anymore. Terrible AI pathing and your party members just standing around doing nothing until you move them manually... bah.Obsidian is a crap dev :|
Obsidian is a crap dev :|
Negatory. Their latest work, Mask of the Betrayer, is apparently top notch and praised by many tough critics as one of the best things to turn out in the RPG genre in the past year. Given that, I'd say that the days of panning Obsidian as lackluster developers are a thing of the past.
Go fine tune your options It will help a lot. be prepared to return to this screen a few times, as later in the game, you may want to adjust it again, and again. Also, don't buy the expansion Mask of the Betrayer unless you don't mind adding a Soul Meter which you must feed constantly, IMO stick with the 2nd...no expansion. It really feels like the girlfriend of a designer got on team and bring this bright idea of a soul meter with her and that suddenly, they add a features which plainly ruins the game. A guy and maybe even a team would bear with his GF, but me, as a fan, if this is trash, I will say it openly...the soul meter is trash, it ruins my gaming experience. The soul meter is a new gameplay, a foreign gameplay, that is like a Japanese feeding game, and it has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with the main game. Mask of the Betrayer is a disaster, avoid the expansion like the plague.

Put your shadow detail down a notch and you should gain 10 frames. The reason you are getting bad performance is because you only have 256 MB's of VRAM on your GPU. I was also getting bad performance on my 8800 GTS 320 MB, but when I got a 512 MB 8800GT, it was much, much smoother.

Aargh, been working harder lately. Less time around the PC = less time posting on GS, hehe.
Otherwise just trying to keep up with all the good games coming out lately...:P
I've put in far too many hours playing NWN2. I think I've put in almost 200 hours since I picked this game up when it came out and I have still yet to beat it.I generally get into the second act, about half way (give or take some) and I grow bored of the character I'm playing....so I start over with a completely different character.I've got a level 14 ranger that I'm enjoying right now and a level 12 fighter that I'm working into one hell of a 2 weapon wielder.I've tried every class and played each one up until at least level 10. With a bit more effort, I'll finally work my way through the complete game and then I'll try my hand with Mask of the Betrayer expansion. I hope it draws me in as much as the NWN2 did.I find this game to be oh so much more entertaining then Oblivion.
