Well I finally got my Visa card and decided to buy four games from Steam that I had always wantedDeus ExThe Longest JourneyMax Payne 2Counter Strike 1.6However I know that Steam is safe but I am just getting some second thoughts about giving away my Visa card. Also there is the issue of the games themselves and I assume that they will work with XP SP2. I guess what I am looking for is just some assurance and words of encouragement that would convince me that my first Steam buy would go as planned. Steam Jitters
I downloaded and bought all my games with my dad's Visa. I've never had a trouble, and should any ever appear, I printed the garantue paper's, that they suggest you print upon buying the game (or is it installing? I can never remember. You can't miss it though). Really, Steam won't let you down when it comes to purchasing.Steam Jitters
iirc they dont store your info concerning payments, so upon being charged they delete your card information.I dont like using my card online period, but sometimes you ''have to'' and I felt very safe using Steam. And I havent heard of compatability issues. I just downloaded Vampire: Bloodlines and it runs fine; plus I was able to use a third-party hack to widescreen it (doesnt support widescreen in stck form).
As online places to use your credit card go I'd place steam right below financial institutions in terms of security. If you're going to use it anywhere Steam is probably one of your safest bets.
If you are really paranoid and don't mind a little extra work, go to you credit card company's website. Most credit cards offer special temporary e-purchase accounts. You go to the credit card site request one, they give you a new credit card number that is only good for one transaction or a fixed amount. The amount charged to that temp account goes on your normal credit card bill, but it's useless to anyone who would steal it.As far as compatibility with Window XP SP2 you have no worries with any Valve games. And, in my experience, older third party games sold over Steam are actually more stable than their retail versions. (I had a copy of Arx Fatalis that I couldn't get to run with all the patches and hacks I could find on the internet. I repurchased through Steam and it runs fine.)
Allright I bought the games and CS1.6 is working fine but two more stopped downloading, I mean they still state that the download is happening and what percent it is at, but it is not increasing and I can't see the rate at wich it is going.
I've used my own Visa on Steam several times and have not ever had an issue. They use probably one of the best encryption services available. And as for compatibility, as long as you have XP you should not have any problems. And I do believe there is a refund option, you can ''return'' the game within the same day of purchase for a full refund.

It should work then.
