well my fps on cod4sp goes down to around 8 and it is really annoying. the only thing that could cuase this was viruses and my computer has been getting alot, i have kaspersky but its not that great. is there anyway to reinstall windows vitsa ultimate 64 bit without formatting. like just replacing the system files.choppy cod4 gameplay
Actually, the number of problems, both hardware and software, that can cause changes in performance are so huge that it boggles the mind, but VISTA is somewhere near the top. It's just not good enough for games, and Dx10 is no excuse with so little game support for it. If you are reinstalling anyway, put Vista on the shelf for another year (maybe only nine months) and put XP back in there. With XP, there is a ''Repair Install'' that leaves most everything in place, but that probably includes the infections. choppy cod4 gameplay
I have Vista and no problems....
It's probably the huge amount of viruses that he has that is causing the performance drop.
Try Spybot Search and Destroy and AVG free aswell. You may need to take it to a local computer shop if it still is bad.
Btw, what are your specs?
If your disc is an upgrader, then you can put the disc in and act just like you're upgrading, and that will keep all your user files while replacing the system stuff.
That's kind of odd as Kaspersky is one of the highest rated a/v software packages out there. Is it up to date and the levels set ok?It's out of the realm of this forum (PC Hardware is the right choice), but you can do an overlay install of Vista, but the viruses will still remain. The only way to remove all virus's is a complete wipe of all the HDs %26 partitions in your system. Just for kicks what are your system specs?
amd am2 4000+ ~2.7 ghz (Overclocked)OCZ pc6400 vista platinum edition 4 gigs (overclocked by just 54 mhz)gigabyte m16p-s3ati saphire hd 2600 xtbecuase i saw that my video card had around 1700 mb of shared memory on dxdiag so i went ahead and overclocked my mem freq from 750 to 840 and it runs much better but still choppy in some scences.
I can recommend you Hitman Pro 2, it's a complete anti virus/spyware/malware program that scans your whole PC and if neccasary heals or deletes bad files. The program is fully automatic, you just run the scan and you can go watch TV or something, if there's a pop-up like 'are you sure you wish to delete these threats?' , the program will automaticly choose yes and continue scanning.I had a lot of virusses on my laptop and when I didn't perform a complete scan once a month, it was becomming very, very slow! Not only programs and such, but also internet. After a complete scan and fix, my laptop could run back on it's normal speed.
