Map Editors
These days, map editors in RTSs suck! They're so complicated! The AoE 1 %26 2 map editors were the best - I was creating complex scenarios, with triggers and timers and the like, at the age of eleven. Anyone else similarly annoyed?Map Editors

3-way SLI is a stupidly huge waste of money. You can get it for probably $1500-$2000 cheaper than the $5000 that Alienware is asking, if you were to build the computer yourself; an even still its a waste of money. But if you're looking to play Crysis, more than anything, three 8800 Ultras are barely going to be any better than two 8800 Ultras, as seen here: [url]http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3183%26p=3[/url]
The only games that are going to see good extra performance are games that are already going to run just fine on a single-card setup anyway.
EDIT: I actully just looked at the Alienware link, and it seems that the $5000 price tag is still for the normal 2-card SLI configuration. Going up to three 8800GTXs you're looking at $6,300. I'm thinking I'm gonna get it for my dusty 360 so it can feel like it has a use and because its coming out sooner.
It looks really good especially coming from ROckstar. 720p is not a bad resolutionat all, on a TV set. I will love to see a gta game run at 60fps though but the gameplay makes up for it and I'm excited. Multiplayer is another bonus. I'm eager to see the PC port and how the mod community will approach it.

I could care less about achievements.

I strongly suggest City of Heroes/Vilains. The Good vs Evil edition is down to 20$ and the game have made major improvements since last summer.

Alot of games have screenshot built in. Usually uses ''print screen'' key, then its just a matter of going to destination folder. If not download a program called FRAPS (just google it). You can take videos and screenshots ingame with this program.In-game screenshots
thx fr the program. but about the ''print screen'' key, after I press the button and take the photo how can I save it to a foloder. in photoshop I used to press ctrl+v to paste the taken screen shots but that doeesn't seem to work when I want to save it in a folder.
If the game has a built in screenshot function, it will save the screenshot in a folder, usually in the game folder. When using fraps u can choose where the picture will be saved. Then once u have taken the pics simply start photo shop and browse the folder they have been saved to.I hope this explains it and sorry if i missunderstood what you meant.
Well if the game has a built-in screenshot tool (which you'll find out by looking at the key bindings) they'll normally go under the game's root folder or in a folder called Screenshots somewhere in the game's folder.Otherwise, if it isn't binded (and you don't use a program like x-fire or fraps) you'll need to paste the image into something like paint/photoshop and save it manually to a folder.Edit: Beat me :P

thx fr the program. but about the ''print screen'' key, after I press the button and take the photo how can I save it to a foloder. in photoshop I used to press ctrl+v to paste the taken screen shots but that doeesn't seem to work when I want to save it in a folder.

Well if the game has a built-in screenshot tool (which you'll find out by looking at the key bindings) they'll normally go under the game's root folder or in a folder called Screenshots somewhere in the game's folder.Otherwise, if it isn't binded (and you don't use a program like x-fire or fraps) you'll need to paste the image into something like paint/photoshop and save it manually to a folder.Edit: Beat me :P

Yes. In order to play all the games you require the DVD's to be in the drive as you play. But other than that the Best of PC pack is outstanding.

SR Test is the worst of them, with serious inaccuracies, often as high as 20 % of the ''Pass'' results they advise. What they find out about your system is useful to know, and you can print that out to take with you to a storefront outfit to compare to the games' warning labels. This is off topic and I know Krall is lurking somewhere :arrow: in the shadows so I'll get to the point. This tweak is for Intel core 2 users also known as Dual core users. Some people have discovered almost a x2 boost of framerate due to TF2 was only utilizing one core. Here's the tip:When you start up Team Fortress 2 and arrive at the menu>![]()
go to your options and search for enable console.Next open up the console by pressing the (~) key located on the left side of the 1 key. A text box should then appear.Next simply type in Mat_queue_mode 2Update: This tweak also works for Quad core users. However Quad core users should also type in Fps_max 60 (Without locking the framerate cap the frames seems to be almost to high and causes sluggish in frames. However the only thing I notice about this tweak was that your weapon will sometimes appear, reappear and a couple of crashes but for the performance I feel it's worth it.)This command will function TF2 to use your second core rather then the one core default .Enjoy...I'm going to blog this because I'm sure this will get lock :)![]()

Gamespy totals up servers all over the world, alot the in game browser probably doesn't detect. Plus Gamespy will show every version, the ingame browser will only display servers matching your own. That way you're not connecting to servers you couldn't even play on without installing or uninstalling a patch.

The 3. did some changes that were really bad, aswell as being ported with no stability.

Fallout 3. Yeah, blah blah, Bethesda sucks....but no, they don't. Even though I loved the original Fallouts, I expect a solid game, with a lot more depth than Oblivion. I have faith in Bethesda and hopefully their ability to listen to some of the criticisms a lot of us had about Oblivion. Otherwise, most of my most wanted RPG's this year are on consoles.

Well if you're into indie games, Age of Decadence is one to keep an eye out for. Dragon Age, which has already been mentioned, is also probably worth waiting for, but it is still a long ways off. Nothing else worth looking forward to comes to mind.

Does anyone else experience a lot of stuttering while playing GoW?I'd like to think that my comptuer is more then capable of running GoW without any hitches. I've installed the patch, which is said to fix graphic/gameplay issues and such...but I haven't noticed any improvement.Does GoW make use of dual core and SLI? Even if it doesn't, I don't think I should be having any issues - specs listed below.

I have a tweak to get higher frames and to get rid of the stuttering. However I dont want to post in here because I'm not suppose to be giving out this information to people. I also have tweaks for audio as well to obtain EAX 5.0. If you guys maybe have a windows live account or msn messenger, I can step by step you.

Hey guys, so atm i am gettin my servers from nextgen but i am NOT happy w/ their customer server. For example, today both our servers are down for no random reason. Their live support is down and my ticket hasnt been answered in about 5 hours. Its a fun game. If you liked diablo youll love it. The patch did fix alot of things up. I have not been playing it much lately though because I have been playing Savage 2 instead. That game is great fun.

I bought the first Max Payne a couple of years after it came out. I was too young to really appreciate it, not to mention being tramatized by what happens at the beginning of the game. I put it aside, and played it again a couple of years later. I loved it this time, and was satisfyed. I installed it again recently and played through it, and now I can safely say it's one of my favorite games of all time. I was saddened to learn after playing the MP2 demo that it's been discontinued almost everywhere. Does anyone know of ANY retailers that are still carrying it? Guild Wars 2nd Profession question!!
I want my second profession to be a warrior. So Sir Tydus says to go to Warmaster Grast, of which I did, but when I talk to him, he just says things about a skill to learn or I ask him about a second profession, i say warrior, and he says to go talk to some Baron guy... HELP?!
Laptop won't play DVDs
So, I have a DVD drive in my laptop. And for some reason, the the DVDs are playing really, really choppy. I'm usuing VLC player.It wasn't a problem a couple days ago. But now, it keeps playing choppy, almost like its lagging. Any ideas?I can use the DVD ROM drive. Madden 08 works fine in there, as do other games. But DVDs . . . Laptop won't play DVDs

Hi! =)I tried both and I mean, they are two great games... My friend and I want to buy a game that will be fun to play together, that will involves teamplay and that we will play for a long time. We like the competitive side in gaming too.So which one should we get?CoD4 or TF2?

Team Fortress 2.
The Orange Box is really worth the money you'll put into it.. Portal is great and HL:2 is.. well.. what you would expect from a great single player FPS.On the other hand, CoD 4 has really great graphics and is more of a war simulation.. I must confess that I'm growing tired of the cartoon look and gameplay of TF2So.. If you prefer a real war feeling.. I'd go for CoD 4.. if you just want a great multiplayer FPS.. I'd go for TF2

Hey, I'm playin crysis at the moment and i've read the guide on here for somehelp but all it tells me to do is wait at the end of the cemetary. I'm on the level ''relic'' the very last part were you have to go to the extraction point. BUt i don't know what to do to get the KPA guys to come out and attack. thanks guys. You can't beat the multiplayer of bf2 on anygame. I;m two years in and after crysis and cod4 and all this other stuff. I Still am in love with BF2 thousands of hours in. If you cant see full distance then you will get OWNED by people who can see full distance.
Good because if you buy/upgrade a system for just a few games, then you've accidently screwed yourself over.Think of it like this though, you've just put 1000 dollars of awesomeness into your Rig, youre PC is gonna last way longer, and can play more high end games.

While battlefield 2 is a great game, I built a brand new system from scratch to play high end games such as crysis, and I am addicted to the Sandbox Editor 2 at the moment. I find it to be the most fun just because of the pure infinite possibilites with the game.
BF2 is a much different multiplayer game then either Crysis or Gears.It's much, much more team based then either of the games. Which means that as long as you've got a good team playing, it's one of the best games to play, especially when everyone comes together into a massive skirmish over a control point.

yeah I fully agree, Battlefield is really addictive. So many possibilities and no two games are the same.

Yep. I've been getting back into Battlefield 2 lately. Its a great game, no two games play the same.
Its unique in that it has good lone-wolf play, but it really comes of age in a team :D.

Yep. I've been getting back into Battlefield 2 lately. Its a great game, no two games play the same.
Its unique in that it has good lone-wolf play, but it really comes of age in a team :D.

I've downloaded a mod on here for new head and hair models for Morrowind but how do I use the zip file to put it in the game itself? I don't know anything about mods, I've never used them before, and I apologize if I sound like a noob, but can someone just tell me how to use it?I need some help with mods
Okay I finally realized how to put it in, now my problem is that when I try to go through the faces, it says there is an error and gives me a note 'contine running executable' and if i say yes, it crashes, if I say no, it crashes. can someone please tell me what to do about this problem? it's quite frustrating.I need some help with mods
It sounds like the models that you downloaded are corrupt. Try redownloading them and trying again.If they don't work, I'd probably just try and find some more to use.

I got one called 'pretty heads' that I was told was good one, and what happens now is that either the game will freeze in the opening menu, of if I get the game going, the NPCs and my character have some sort of green glow around them and makes it really choppy. Does anyone have any that they could recommend to me that I should try? Because the mods that I really want are more race mods, or new better face mods.

Honestly, I'd rather see the series stay dead. By the looks of it, it will be similar to Jordan coming back to play for the Wizards. We love michael jordan, we love baldur's gate....but sometimes it's better to just leave things retired! There is no possible way BG3 can live up to the extremely high standards ascociated with the series. I'd rather see some sort of spin-off, and i'm looking forward to dragon age alot more because it's from bioware.

I think it's much more fun and nicer looking. As for RTS games - I wasn't talking about RTS games.On NWN2 - yeah, but that engine has now pretty much been replaced, I think. Games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Hellgate (and Fallout 3?) show pretty clearly the direction in which future RPGs are heading.Even if these games feature optional isometric modes, they mostly strike me as being transitional options to appease a moderately small demographic while the genre continues to head towards over-the-shoulder style cameras and the like. It's pretty clear what the masses want, and it's not isometric views.Anyway, I mostly agree with you. Those specs seem resonable to me especialy since they are supposedly tweaking the graphics up for the PC version.

I have several PCs here myself, but (I think) only one has that dual layer capability. Also, if it can run, even at low image quality settings, on the X1300 or vanilla 6600, that doesn't sound badly optimized to me; those are pretty puny cards compared to most of the current eye-candy-filled games.

Really... Any improved performance mods-I have similar specs, and BioShock was not close to the 360 version.

Looks like Ubisoft are wanting an excuse to stop making games for PC.It may be 2008, but making dual core a minimum requirement cuts out a massive chunk of the market. Looking at the latest Steam hardware survey (ok that's not gospel, but it has over 1 million unique PC's used for gaming) shows that over 60% only have single core machines.NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disc and virtual drives. StarForce was Ubisoft's preferred choice of copy protection and games carried this same warning - we know just how much people love that :evil: One big benefit PC gaming has over console gaming, is that the software is cheaper. Those specs seem resonable to me especialy since they are supposedly tweaking the graphics up for the PC version.

I've never played either and was wondering which has more people playing, or which would be a better choice.Everquest 1 and 2
i think that 2 is better. i never played 1 past luclin but i played 2 until i was lvl 70 then i quit. Its a good game.Everquest 1 and 2

OK, here's how it is these days...EQ1 still has a healthy population of around 200k subscribers, however, most of that population is in the higher levels and are only playing because of the raid content. The game is NOT the same as it was pre-PoP (expansion). I would highly recommend you not start the game if you have never played before because you will be very lonely in the lower level zones. As for EQ2, now is a good time to jump in. If you buy the newest expansion, Rise of Kunark, then you get the base game plus every expansion that has been released for $40. Awesome deal right there. It seems to have a healthy overall population just so as long as you pick the right server. The game started out bad but each expansion, particularly since Echoes of Faydwer has significantly changed this game around.
EQ1 is a classic which (apart from UO) started it all. But yeah, its a bit late in the day to bother with it now. As for EQ2, contrary to popular belief and subscribtion numbers. (and I know I am going to get flammed by the kids for this.) It's better than WOW.

It blew my expectations, that's for sure, but long story short I love this game and I'm looking forward to the full version! The Dark Eldar are pretty much my new fave. race. Looks like the game got a graphical update too, cuz it looks like nothing that the previous screens were showing.Although, I can tell Relic didn't have a lot to do with this and mainly ''ironlore'' - but the cutscenes in the game didn't feel right, especially the new intro movie (personally, I love DoW's intro movies.); it was just more like ''Hey guys, shoot back at the Tau! *Tau defeat IG.* SoB's come into the screen and then just shoot back at the Tau, most boring thing ever! That's when I thought ''yeah, Relic didn't make this, this is just a failed attempt at trying to make a cool W40k scene.'' but after the bad intro movie, I played the tutorial to familiarize myself with the new race, and then went ahead and played a skirmish which I thought was very fun, despite the fact that the game needs an ''update' I'm still gonna get this, because it looks promising.Air units don't seem like much though, I mean, they are so light and every unit can fire on them, and they just seem to be like ''the first Light Vehicle of every race...WITH WINGS!'' - although it doesn't ''re-write'' the rules of engagement and the way combat will be in DoW like it says it would do, they are a nice addition and I like them, nothing wrong with having them.Here's the main problem though: I don't want to buy this game - along with many others if they liked the demo enough - and then make Relic, THQ, or Ironlore, or whoever it may concern, to think ''oh hey, Soulstorm sold very well, LETS MAKE ANOTHER EXPANSION'' because DAMNIT THIS GAME NEEDS AN UPDATE! We all pretty much know that we want a DoW 2 instead of an overpriced standalone expansion every year or so, because I love DoW and I always will, but it's starting to get outdated, I mean, you can tell not just from the graphics, but the structure of the game, etc. etc. (IE: Like how there's so many damn unneccessary buildings, and how squads stand in a perfect square formation.) if they do make a DoW 2, they need an equally epic cut scene as the original DoW. i do agree with you though. when i heard that they might make yet ANOTHER expansion it kinda frustrated me. they already said somewhere that they are not gonna make tyranids on this engine, so they cant add any races. unless they go way WAY more in depth with each of the existing races i dont see how they can milk this any more.So now we've had a chance to try soulstorm, what are your first impressions?

''vehicles'', hive tyrants for commanders, zoanthropes for lack of a better word ranged infantry, gargoyles for air... Tyranids have a fully functioning military but not in a conventional sence.
Ah, another thing that concerned me was now that air units are in the game, it could have been a problem for the 'nids - but now that you've summed it up for me, I'd love to see the 'nids in 40k! I may just get that Tyranid mod too :D. I'd love to have a whole army of nids and then just watch them rise up from the ground and tear everything apart.Oh yeah, forgot to mention that now that Soulstorm has an ''interplanetary'' campaign, I'm DEFINETLY getting it, that's the main selling point for me, although, I don't know which race I'd start off as, heck, I'll go with the Dark Eldar since I just love those Raiders and ''Soule Essence Powers'' lol.

If you want a good depiction of the Tyranids, Arab, get the Ultramarines omnibus and read Warriors of Ultramar (the second book in the Ultramarines series). You'll get a pretty good picture that way of what Tyranids are like during a full force invasion, and you'll see what kind of attacks and bio-weaponry they can use against different opponents.

Ah, another thing that concerned me was now that air units are in the game, it could have been a problem for the 'nids - but now that you've summed it up for me, I'd love to see the 'nids in 40k! I may just get that Tyranid mod too :D. I'd love to have a whole army of nids and then just watch them rise up from the ground and tear everything apart.Oh yeah, forgot to mention that now that Soulstorm has an ''interplanetary'' campaign, I'm DEFINETLY getting it, that's the main selling point for me, although, I don't know which race I'd start off as, heck, I'll go with the Dark Eldar since I just love those Raiders and ''Soule Essence Powers'' lol.
It was ok. I am more looking forward to what new units the existing races will get. I hope it is more than just one unit. Im thinking it should be at least 3, you know add alot of variety to the game.
If you want a good depiction of the Tyranids, Arab, get the Ultramarines omnibus and read Warriors of Ultramar (the second book in the Ultramarines series). You'll get a pretty good picture that way of what Tyranids are like during a full force invasion, and you'll see what kind of attacks and bio-weaponry they can use against different opponents.

So yeh is world of warcraft worth paying like 200 dollars to play for just a year.If so what race and job (sorry but i can't use that specific word)should i go eg Hunter,Warlock,Warrior would those who have played world of warcraft pleaserecomend and yes i know it is really your own opinion but literaly which is like the strongest i was thingking of being a hunter because they can set traps and tame animals but i wasn't really sure which race to go.Also which faction should i go horde or alliance.Which one do most people go because of course i want to be able to talk to the majority of people, I'm basically saying which is the most popular.World of warcraft is it worth getting?

I suggest you choose a Hunter as your first class, very simple to be OK at, but hard to master, they are easy to level and make money with.More people are Alliance than Horde, so you will have an easier time getting groups on Alliance, aswell as them having a better economy.

wowdetox.com was pretty disturbing...Anyway, warriors are the best when it comes to PvP, given that they have amazing strength. I went warrior and I had a good time before I quit.
It really comes down to your own personal opinion , and the server you will be playing on. But i would have to say Hunters are pretty easy to level , but you might regret it at a higher level as there is often a lot of them and their uses in raids aren't that great.

To get back on topic I reccommend WoW. It's pvp system is easily the best out of all MMO's. Its quiet deep so theres a lot to learn. But don't get it for high end raiding.. You'll meet some of the worst human beings on earth and the loot system, DKP, is atrocious.
Its worth getting if you don't turn out into one of those people. Just realize its a huge grind, and Blizzard has another expansion coming out making all peoples hard work to upgrade their gear from 60 to 70, another huge chore to go from 70 to level 80.Its painful to think of it, not sure how people can stick it out like they do. You know, I think I would still go back to WOW for a month or two if they remade all the graphics, but only if they that. I can't see the same old thing anymore.Bottom line, don't get addicted. I'd say go for it. Its 'addictive' qualities are just the same as alcohol or minor drugs. If you drink but you never drink too much, and you never get addicted to it, or become an alcoholic, or you dont drink at all, then its easy to not become obsessed with WoW. Its a great game, and when you hit the level cap PvP is like playing a fast paced first-person shooter online. It also puts you in great scenarios. Easily worth a buy. And its so pathetic reading those stupid comments. Its like saying everyone who smokes weed is a stoner, or anyone who drinks is an alcoholic. Sad that those kids cant get control of their lives and decide to whine about it instead.Its also pathetic watching people delete their level 70 characters because they are too weak to not go back. No, its not worth it anymore. You can level fine. But once you get to 70, everyone is leet speaking 12 year olds. Most of the adults have moved on it seems. Or moved to RP servers in a desparate attempt to escape the kids.

-DONT pick a class because people say it's fun. Their opinion of ''fun'' might be different from yours. Maybe you like to shoot people from 40 yards away, maybe they like to stab people in the back when they're low on health.
-DONT pick professions that other people will say are ''good only at level 70'' or anything like that. Thats the mistake I did and i've had to change both my professions to something interesting. Even if your 2 jobs are only fun at low levels thats not a problem at all. If at level 70 you decide you want to switch jobs, you can do that in just a few hours. Jobs can be changed, classes CANT so you need to focus more on your Class selection. Although everyone HIGHLY recommends you pick a gathering profession as your 2nd job so you can make lots of money.
-Leveling up is VERY VERY different from Level 70. Lots of people are saying bad things about the game because of [Insert Excuse Here] at Level 70. There's a good chance you'll absolutely LOVE levels 1-69 and hate 70. If so, you STILL got your money's worth and its worth paying money for that experience.
One more thing, before ANYONE decides to buy World of Warcraft you need to do 2 things:
1. Go to www.WorldofWarcraft.com and check out all the game information on the left side. It has pretty much all the information about the game you need to get started so read everything. If you are REALLY interested in the game, continue to #2. If you still arent convinced, don't bother playing the game. period.
